ATB protein skimming magic

Many of you will know that my current system, the ZEOnano9020 currently uses an ATB multi-use protien skimmer as the main system for nutrient export. And what an amazing job it does too. In this post is a selection of images showing just what type of gunk this protien skimmer pulls from this 20g reef tank. The images were taken 5 days after the skimmer cup was cleaned – needless to say, the cup was given another clean. In general the cup is cleaned once a week, with the neck getting a wipe down every 2nd or 3rd day. Every 3 months the entire skimmer is breakdown and given a well deserved clean out, but with the way the ATB skimmers are built, taking it apart to clean every component is a breeze.
